Steaming good for gentle cooking, flavour and economical. As in 2 steamer pans on the boiling water pan which may also have potatoes & or carrots in. Then save cooking water for soup making or gravy. Other choice would be Remoska cooking. Grill, bake etc all in one mini style oven pan. Great for baked potatoes

Found out today 11th March 2019. Whilst researching higher Pottasium levels, it is best to boil Potatoes and other veg in order for the pottasium to escape. And therefore Also for me not a good idea to have baked/ jacket potatoes, and any potatoe that hasn't been boiled in lots of water. Oh & also not to drink the veg water or use it to make soup, sauces. So that's me told ! obviously no need to worry if your levels are average. I'm going to print off a chart I found on HU so I can work on getting my level down to 3 or 4

Every person has a different objective , with me I need Low GI / Low carb. and the absolute worst thing with potato is boiling - the best is baked. Its mainly to keep the fibres unbroken so the starch is released slowly . Even Low GI potato I never over cook to soften / break the fibres.

Another very interesting aspect. Thank you for your reply. I learn so much on the various forums on HU.

I totally agree! Especially about the microwave. Had to vote for just one but like the others equally for different dishes/occasions. I’d love to see your recipe for microwave bacon salad, I’m intrigued!

I voted stirfry but read on here the other day about roasted cauliflower and how nice it was. I gave it a try as I've got two caulis to get rid of so I chopped it up, squirted it with 1cal and gave it some salt and pepper and stuck it in the oven on Mk5 gas for about 30 mins and it was absolutely delicious. I kept going back to it and eating it like crisps until it was all gone. I'm going to roast some more today to go on my dinner.

The Slo Cooker gives the best results except for a beef stew, 20minutes in the Prestige pressure cooker is unbeatable.

The airfryer my wife bought me for my birthday is proving really versatile.

Intriguing. What is an air-fryer please?

It's a small cooker that stands on your worksurface and is suitable for cooking a dish for 2 people max. It is an oven with a fan. It browns food very well. It does not do liquids, although if they are thick and stick to a main food item that works.

Chips, Samosas, chopped cauliflower etc.

The great thing is everything is cooked evenly.

Hi Jerry

Another good poll. I've chosen slow cooked but I also love roasted veggies.😀

I voted roasted as I love to roast lot's of different veggies and it does us for two days. I also steam broccoli, sprouts, green beans etc over a pan of new potatoes and carrots.

Steamed and baked/roast, love either way for veggies. I even roasted sprouts the other day.

It really depends on what you are cooking. Some dishes such as risotto are difficult to put into a category as initially you lightly fry your chopped shallots then add rice plus ingredients then slowly add chicken broth which implies slowly boiling for 10 minutes...

My significant "other" is the microwave. I'm also partial to anything instant with my tea kettle - instant coffee, instant soup. However, if I'm not cooking, grilled, roasted, and steamed ( my cardiologist wants me to fill up on steamed vegetables,

I have a convection oven, about the size of a microwave. Faster than a regular oven with similar results and dosen`t heat up the whole house. Heating element on top with fan, only cost me 35$ at Wal Mart! I use it every day!

I am surprised that steamed is not more popular with the healthy eating crowd. I used to grill my chicken but now I have tried steaming it I don't think I will go back to grilled. The amount of oil floating on top of the steaming water reminded me that there is still stuff in fresh food that you can't see until you steam it off. :-)

Good Morning Jerry... my slow cooker is now my go to... wasn't when l was younger. I have an Alien Limb (right arm has a mind of its own) & turning food in the skillet became a wasteful task... food hit the floor. My wonderful dog always volunteered to help with clean up. I think the dog hates the slow cooker!

I DO use, quite a number of different cooking Methods. After all, you can't cook a Roast, under a grill can you (I know the Americans have a 'Pot Roast'....I've never tried one and I'm NOT, at all sure, that I want to. Maybe a 'Multiple Choice Poll' might be better?
