I don’t feel like I have a favourite type of holiday, I can enjoy lazing on a beach for a few days, but I also want to explore, get to know the place I am visiting, meet the people, get involved with activities, and I love camping, staying with friends, being in a cottage, staying in a hotel. Variety is what I want from my holidays. And I also enjoy holidays that involve voluntary work and service, spiritual retreats and so on. My only definite need is that everything is accessible to me as a part time wheelchair user, and that I can charge the batteries for my powerchair!

I love the idea of a spiritual retreat. I don’t think I would want to come back home though!

Hi Clare - I tried to reply to your message but it has gone into the listing below. Love your summing up of the myriad pleasures of holidays, and the balance to be had for those with mobility problems. Happy travelling

I like self catering, being able to eat out if I want to or just having scrambled eggs for tea if I fancy that.

I am just about to embark on my fourth river cruise. The most relaxing holidays I have ever had.

That sounds good. Where abouts have you been as we have thought about doing this (if you don’t mind me asking)

Danube once, Rhine both ways, just about to do the Douro in Portugal. Shearings River Cruises. No big posh boats like Viking but half the price.

That sounds lovely. My partner wants to have this type of holiday. We almost went on the vegan cruise last year but he wanted to do a river cruise on a smaller boat. Thanks for the reply 🙂 I will look into this.

My ideal is to have a holiday cottage in Ambleside, Cumbria, in the spring and go for lovely walks and then in the autumn have a little late sun in port de pollenca in Spain if possible and hope that we get a good summer here in the uk. What about you?

in reply to Agoodenough

Hi Ali, I like cottages in the middle of nowhere, like the black mountains/Loch Ness and I also like apartments in small cities/ towns like Bridge of Allan in Scotland as I love the lochs and mountains.

I prefer self catering as I'm a coeliac so have to be very careful with what I eat and I like the freedom of being able to please myself and in comfort.

I really like the sound of your holiday choices too. 😊

Such a good description of the ideal holiday - embrace relaxation, add in exploration and activities, with service to others. Also the practicalities/difficulties of coping with mobility problems. Best wishes

At 84 I find this type of holiday suits me because I feel safe but also enjoy being on the sea

We tend to go for city breaks - lots to see and do. I can't stand the idea of spending a whole week on a sun lounger...

We're going to try our first walking holiday next month - just a long weekend in a self catering cottage (thought we'd try a self catering holiday to see if it's easier for my OH who's coeliac)

Being with family and friends within some what organized fashion touring brings us the greatest joy. May it be with the kids and grandkids we fly to Disney FL or a winery to meet with friends at in OR. Trips to Ireland to stoll the city and country. Still so much to expalore. We hve done the islands which we love and may buy property to retire in the future, for today chasing soccer balls and baseballs keeps us busy.

Holiday cottage as I like the freedom of self catering and being able to take the dog, but don't like camping I need a proper bed, toilet and shower! Off to a cottage in Wales on Monday.

I use to like various holidays in the uk, as I think we have loads of lovely areas i now like hotel holidays as a full time carer, to get some one to do the beds, cooking, ect allows me to have a bit of a break

in reply to Happygirl8

Hey Happygirl, you deserve pampering too so a hotel sounds perfect for you, so enjoy your break.😊

One 10 day holiday I travelled 4000 miles on my Motorbike 11 different countries, 4 ferries lots of time zones & lots of adj watch.

in reply to HOBIEONE

Sounds like a real adventure and serious fun, so good for you HOBIEONE 🏍 😎

Hi Jerry, I have chosen activity/adventure but see I could have probably picked holiday cottage but I suppose it all boils down to what is perceived as an activity/adventure holiday or a holiday cottage one. In short, we go to the Lake District every year and walk the fells and absolutely love it and the higher the mountain the better for me, I am so looking forward to it this year and would love to live nearer but can't leave my family.

We stay in a log cabin and walk most days, the only thing that stops us walking is bad weather. I certainly am not the kind of person that could just sit on a beach and read, go on a cruise or camp (I am a person that loves her home comforts i.e. I have to have a shower and kitchen). ;)

By the way, another good poll. :)

in reply to

Hi Alicia, the lakes are beautiful and your log cabin sounds charming so I bet you’re looking forward to going. I agree that families are important and ingluence our choices. So I like your sentiment.

Your choice is very similar to mine, somewhere beautiful with mountains, lochs and in comfort, ticks all the boxes for me. 😊

in reply to

They certainly are Jerry and I can't think of a better place. The log cabins we stay in are lovely and after we booked it we found more log cabins a little further away and they looked lovely, they were new ones so we may give those a go next year. Families certainly do influence our choices and I couldn't be miles away from mine.

You cannot beat mountains, lake and lochs, the scenery is stunning. :)
