Her insurer would have covered a urine test at $100.92 but argued it was out of network. The hospital billed her for $17,800. What would you do if it happened to you? goo.gl/thbsSn

I have taken pain medication for many years, without having to increase the dosage. 2 or 3 years ago my doctor said that the state of Tennessee had started requiring urine samples for chronic pain drug users. I said OK and gave the sample. I was charged for it (insurance would not pay). The second time that I was asked to give a urine sample I let my doctor know that although I understood the need to insure that we do not abuse our medication, I did not feel that it was fair that I should have to pay for this. I had never abused my medicine. My doctor said that I should talk with his nurse. The nurses at his office had gotten a petition going saying just what I said. On the previous visit I had paid right then, instead of waiting to get billed for it, and the lab gave a discount. The second time I signed the petition and did not pay. I have never received any bills and I am tested every 6 months.

That's awesome! Glad to hear the nurses were looking out for your best interests.
