3months since head injury, No smell& My taste is s... - Headway
3months since head injury, No smell& My taste is still there, but i have same strong sweet perfumey taste all the time. will it go away?
after the radiation to my brain (x30) for months afterwards all I could tast was burning
I also lost my sense of smell (resulting in me setting fire to the kitchen as I could not smell the dinner burning) and lost my sense of taste, this lead to me loosing weight as I lost all interest in food, eating was just like chewing cardboard. Mysense of taste came back after about a year my sense of smell took much longer 3 years. I found this a bonus as people would tell me my dog had...let off wind....but how did I know if she had, or was it them covering thier tracks?
Thankyou for your answer, it is so nice to hear you got your taste and smell back. ive been feeling so anixous that my smell may never come back. in my work i use quite a lot of chemicals and i feel quite nervous that i could end up having accidents cause i cant smell the danger. i havent returned to work yet, im not sure how i will get on, at present my problems with fatigue prevent my return. With all of todays modern technology youd think the doctors would be able to give us an idea of the degree of damage and predicted a rate of healing but it seems not. i think ive been watching too many episodes of startrek!!!!
thanks for listening and best wishes.
Hi Roseylee, My sense of smell as improved over the last 3 years. After my op in 2009 it was pretty poor. Also i couldn't stand the taste of chocolate ,coffee or tea. Unfortunately i only went off choc for a short while but 3 years on. Love the smell of coffee take a sip and it tastes disgusting and the same with tea. One of the guys from headway lost an awful lot of weight after his op. If i remember correctly everything tasted peculiar , so many years on he as had to join weight watchers so i guess it didn't last . Hope this helps in some way.
