Children of brain injury survivors

Hi everyone,

My mum had a brain haemorrhage when I was 13. I'm now 25 and my sisters and I (who were 15 and 8 at the time) are really interested to speak to other children of brain injury survivors to hear their experiences of growing up with a parent who's had a brain injury.

We know from growing up that there aren't many people who really understand the effects of brain injury on the sufferer and their families, so we are really keen to hear from anyone who's happy to share.

Thank you,

The Webb sisters.

We aren't quite what you are looking for as my siblings and I were adults (29, 33, 36) when my mother had a SAH last September but it has been so hard for us, I can only imagine how much the devastation is magnified when it happens when you are still children. I hope you find support to help

Not quite the same experience I'm afraid but can empathise with the affect TBI has on a family . My daughter ;24, has a severe brain injury following a car accident 2 years ago . This has completely devastated the whole family she has 3 brothers who have stood by and watched from being told she was going to die ,8 weeks ICU, acute medical ward and 3 months rehab. Now living at home . She has 6 nieces and nephews, the eldest is 11 youngest 9 months . Pre accident she was an amazing aunt and incredibly close to the oldest (9 at the time of the crash ) ... the older 2 have definately found it really tough coming to terms with life of brain injury .... their auntie is now sadly a very different person . I am happy to talk more anytime . Talking helps .

I wrote a book and my daughter has written part of a chapter in it to explain her feelings. I have also tried to show their perspective in the book , it’s called : Room 23 surviving a Brain Hemorrhage. She is now nearly 20 and at the time was 15yrs old, my son was 10yrs old. X
