In the long run hopefully, though do we know if the DWP has anything to replace it? If not, and the medical professionals previously used by ATOS are now done with, it could go from bad to worse, with cases building up as confused Civil Servants park them somewhere...

Hi headchild, its on a site called benefits and work and is a very informative site. To access all areas there is small subscription , but well worth it.Especially if you're a new claimant cause it tells you how to fill out forms for dla and esa. Good luck

It is a bit better than that. No Atos doctor will be doing anymore assessments. Instead in the areas where Atos are still doing DLA work, it will be the DWP whom will review the medical notes and application. Indeed only South Wales and the Midlands will be migrating existing claimants to PIP every one else says on their current benefits for the near future at least

Why the Midlands and South Wales - isn't that discriminatory and unfair!!!!

I think it is the one where Capita has a better coverage. The whole thing is turning into a complete disaster we have some people still on old fashioned incapacity benefits (numbers are low), a vast majority of people still on ESA, DLA etc. New claimants on PIP, some people being migrated to PIP, some people on Universal Credit. The independent living fund being cancelled then reinstated

The governments idea of simplifying the benefits process has rather backfired.

Lets remember though that atos were following descriptors set out by the government.

Having said that I don't think atos should have been on a bonus for getting people into work as this as probably created their need to lie and pass people fit for work who clearly are not

My medical assessment by ATOS was fair, it was the DWP who decided I was fit for work and luckily I got a job a few months after being moved to jobseekers so in my case at least they got it right but I know of many people who were in no way fit for work that were kicked off of ESA.

In support of this I've had a support pack from CAPITA, With booklet's about my PiP claim and a DVD, my only concern was the vagueness of the appointment as it was in the time frame of 5 days, I really need someone here to help me out remembering what I need to say, I mean come on, 5 days? NASA have a smaller window when a satellite is going to hit earth, I think I'll give them a call.

Atos decided that I was fit for work about a year ago. I decided not to appeal, couldn't face it, was making myself really ill before every appointment, was in a very dark place. Financially we survived although it was very tight. Headway had helped me get 2 voluntary placements. Both I work under supervision doing simple stuff for 2 hours. My GP supported an application for an ill health pension from an ex employer. They used Atos to assess if I was fit for work so I thought 'oh no. no chance'. This time Atos said I was a liability due to memory/co-ordination/disorientation problems and recommended the pension. They will pay out and it will see me through. Same organisation two different opinions....crazy.
