I have tried various moisturisers but no relief from the burning sensation. Fortunately no itching. Have had internal exam by my GP and she found nothing abnormal just looked slightly inflamed. Have started using Vagifem pessaries this week. I have had this problem for over a year I am 83. How long will I need to use the Vagifem and is it safe?

Hi there,
Thank you for your message.
So most women find relief from symptoms from vagifem within a few weeks. Vagifem is considered safe to use as it gives a local delivery ( just to the vagina) of very low dose oestrogen. It is usually prescribed for regular use over the first few weeks and then reducing dose. Your GP will have given instructions for the pharmacist to put on the box , if not then can we suggest you call the GP practice to ask how often to use initially.
