If you don't have a thyroid anymore, is your condition still known as Graves Disease?

Also, if you smoke, should your eyes still be affected by smoking even if your thyroid has been taken out two years ago?

Thanks so much to anyone who takes the time to answer

Hello Jaxie

Graves is an autoimmune disease and as such, it's for life, as it is in your blood and your DNA.

There is probably some genetic predisposition possible a generation away from you and read Graves is a stress and anxiety driven disease.

I can't comment on the smoking issue, I have never smoked though it was suggested at my first endocrinology appointment when treated for Graves, that I should stop smoking.

The most complete website on all things Graves Disease is written by Elaine Moore.

She too has the disease and runs an open forum much like this excellent forum on all things Graves for everybody and anybody , and is a well respected medical researcher.
