Theoretically this product sounds great but on reflection as it's all "free from", just what ARE the actual ingredients made up of? In my experience when they take out the problem ingredients they replace them with even worse ones.

I'm happy to be proven wrong! :-)

The ingredients are water. Moyu ( konjac) & firming agent : calcium hydroxide

Had to look up Moyu! It is a high fibre food, so you need to be ok with that. It's used as a relief from constipation. Often a useful thing! Calcium hydroxide is used in stuff like cement, so perhaps it's there to balance out the moku effect! I wouldn't fancy eating anything with that in.

Perhaps something to be tried with caution.

If you are looking for a low calorie pasta alternative you could try thinly sliced courgettes, steamed, or cooked in butter if you are looking for a low carb alternative.

hi,

these are shiritaki noodles or konnyaku, and are much cheaper from japanese stores than from H&B. you can order them online from the japan centre for home delivery

they are very bland and slightly chewy in a jelly type way rather than an under-cooked pasta way. I quite like them in stirfries or instead of rice/bean noodles. i have found the dark - more fibrous - version to be a bit rough and harder to digest. I tend to use shredded long green beans or make mock pasta from strips of squash in the same way that penel suggests with courgettes - also these are easily as nutritious and cheaper.

I won't repeat what they are made from, but I really bought into this idea and purchased a bundle i got the rice, noodles and two types of pasta and I have to say they are disgusting sorry! When you open them they smell really fishy, although this does fade significantly with rinsing, but thetexture of them is just awful, theyre all watery and gelified and slimy it is horrible and they are very pricey. I'd rather go without altogether and use a vegetable substitute like cauli rice and carrot ribbon pasta that you make yourself for a fraction of the price and at least taste like food!
