As far as I am aware this was all I was entitled to anyway. I get the Juvela bread and pasta but am disappointed there are no cereal options..
I suppose it will get worse for coeliacs in Scotland if they vote to go independent .. though I think that this is most unlikely. It seems a shame that the NHS now varies depending upon which region we are all situated.
Its pretty bad up here for most conditions. I have diabetes and the access to insulin pumps is absolutely terrible. I belong to a campaign group working to improve things (IPAG Scotland) and although the Government has said that more should be available in some areas access is still poor. It is a terrible postcode lottery. I haven't really had time to get involved with coeliac access or treatment because I am too busy with other stuff - but I am always interested to hear how things are elsewhere in Scotland.
Mental health is another dead zone.
We have a system of health boards which are not accountable to anybody. Although they are publicly funded they do not have to follow Government policy. The Health Board chiefs meet with the Health Minister monthly but nothing much seems to come out of it.
In England as far as medical technology goes if technology is recommended by a consultant the PCT is legally obliged to provide it. This is not the case in Scotland. The Health Board can just say "No". I am not sure what the situation is south of the border for other treatments and drugs. In Scotland although the Government is committed to following NICE for some conditions NICE does not apply and Scotland has its own system called SIGN which only covers a limited range of conditions and I don't think there is an appraisal for CD but anyone please correct me if I'm wrong.
We don't have patient choice in Scotland. If you live in Glasgow the Health Board does not permit patients to go to other health board areas for a second opinion.
Sorry if this is all a bit garbled - I am dead tired.
Come to live in sunny Australia where there is no such thing as a prescription for food for coeliacs. We just pay exorbitant prices for gluten free food that adds many dollars to a weekly food bill.
This even includes pensioners. I always feel a bit jealous when I see the assistance given in the UK.
