that seems to a be a warning about food starch - to make sure you know which food it is. Maize starch should be fine if you don't have a problem with corn. In the UK the label will specify which type of modified starch it is.

I've never had a problem with corn and had a bag of popcorn the other day but 3 products had modified maize starch in it and I had a episode after eating 2 so tried the 3rd on purpose to see what happened and it happened again.

one was baked beans, the other was patak's korma sauce and the one I tried to test my theory was tomato ketchup none said gluten free and the last sentence of it says to avoid if you are allergic to gluten.

I haven't had my results back yet but thought may be found useful to someone who has been avoiding everything but still find themself falling ill thinking nothing of it was it is from corn.

this is only about the modified version and not normal maize starch at all.

It is best to avoid flavoured yoghurts and go for the simple bio/live ones. Greek yoghurt is especially nice as it is naturally thick and creamy and extremely mild - so you can have it plain or stir in a favourite jam/honey/mashed fresh fruit/ground nuts, etc - then you know exactly what is in your yoghurt - because it is pure and live it should (if you are not allergic to cow's milk) be very healthy for you and help to replace some of the bad bacteria with good bacteria. It is also often useful to have a probiotic capsule extra strength as long as it is gluten free. They usually add modified starch to watery yoghurts and these generally are lacking in vitamins - the full fat plain ones are the best option as they have the full range of vitamins and minerals that can be found in milk products.

thank you Lynxcat,

I have just found out that there is modified maze starch in the activia yogurts I have at the moment and I do plain yogurts and love greek yogurts.

I think that natural yogurts are the only way to go now for myself.

I think what I experienced must be due to how extremely sensitive I have become and the amount consumed over a period time.

If you like yogurt may I suggest Easiyo available from Lakeland store or Amazon or direct from Easiyo I purchase their Greek yogurt. You make it yourself but it is much cheaper and it makes a litre.

Have a read of the company first but am sure you will benefit from purchasing this product.

Wishing you well.

i have flare ups if i have flavered yogets to and the soya ones aswell if i have frozen sweet corn too xyes think i will stick to them too never thought it was them

They'res more and more children being born with allergies and sencetivies and I'm not surprised considering how many years dodgy things have been put in the food we've been eating over the decades and the thing with every one of these things they add they need decades of testing but they test them for only short periods of time and we all end up being the test subjects instead.

I checked the Branstons beans in the I have as i keep seeing that a lot of baked beans are not gluten free and like the cheep shop own which caused my flare up they too contain modified maize starch.

I wonder if they use it in the frozen sweetcorn to stop them sticking together.
