Hi

Not had this, so can’t help. Perhaps it would be a good idea to contact your doctor?

Yes, but rectal bleeding should be checked out. You've had investigations?

Mine varies. Not sure if it's from the Diverticular or a tear from straining somewhere else, maybe the rectum. My worse Diverticular are in the Sigmoid colon so not far away. I also have Full Thickness Intra-rectal Intussuception so difficult to be sure where the blood is actually coming from. Recently had fresh blood in pan as well as on paper so glad that's stopped. That was just for a day or 2.

Hello Mary thanks for your reply. It has now stopped after three or four days, which coincided with two days of feeling horrendously nauseous, tired, shivery (Checked, as my doc told me to, and did have a fever) and back pain. I am so thankful i did not get any worse. I imagine this is what they call a mild diverticulitis flare up? Ive been diagnosed with severe diverticula disease in sigmoid and also in the other colon. The whole episode began with horrendous upset stomach which was pale brown/yellow, and occurred the morning after i ate wheat for first time in three weeks (Mexican tortillas) and also had a glass of wine. I'm gad your bleeding has stopped. X

Have you ever been tested for Coeliac Disease? If not I would ask for the test and make sure you eat plenty of wheat/gluten before the blood test otherwise you could get a false 'negative' result.

Glad the bleeding has stopped (for both of us!)

Hello Mary, no I haven’t been tested for that. But to be honest I felt so ill on Tuesday & Wednesday that the idea of eating ANY wheat again, let alone lots of it, fills me with dread. It’s a pity that you have to do that to have the test :-(

But you could get a false negative.

If you might have Coeliac and are Gluten intolerant, wouldn't you prefer to know? You should get support then, prescribitions for ingredients and I would have thought a referal to a Dietician. Are you under a Gastroenterologist? If not, ask GP for a referal?

I'm guessing it's the Colorectal Specialist who diagnosed the Diverticular in the Sigmoid? Following a Barium Enema?

I have Diverticular in all 3 sections of the colon and also a Diverticulum in the Duodenum so assumed Diverticular in the Small Intestine also.
