I didn't realise you could use them as a thickener, I'll have to try them.

Hi I use them to thicken my home made coconut milk yoghurt. It doesn't thicken it too much but i get packets from home bargains cheap, and it works out at better value than vegan gelatin. Plus, I get some omega 3 too!

Hi thyroidthora do you grind up the seeds before adding them?

Hiya,

No, I just put 2 tablespoons in with the ingredients in my yoghurt maker and I let it do it's stuff. The seeds naturally swell up and become gelatus.

An alternative to using grains or seeds for thickening is to use potato. You can use finely sliced potato in soups and stews etc. You just let it boil down. Otherwise potato powder or Smash is very good. You just have to be gentle and add it a small amount at a time to stop it forming lumps.
