I have a omega pack which contains chia seeds, which I add to my porridge it's delicious.

I didn't realise you could use them as a thickener, I'll have to try them.
Hi I use them to thicken my home made coconut milk yoghurt. It doesn't thicken it too much but i get packets from home bargains cheap, and it works out at better value than vegan gelatin. Plus, I get some omega 3 too!
An alternative to using grains or seeds for thickening is to use potato. You can use finely sliced potato in soups and stews etc. You just let it boil down. Otherwise potato powder or Smash is very good. You just have to be gentle and add it a small amount at a time to stop it forming lumps.
