Yes. I steer away from any kind of GF porridge oats as I feel absolutely awful if I eat it. Shame really as I love it. :-(

Oh right it is a shame too thank you

Hi dippsy, not all coeliac can tolerate oats, I remember when they first started talking about 'pure' oats being suitable for some coeliac and that was because they are naturally low in oat gluten (avenin).

What puts me off is coeliac are told not to eat oats for 12 months after diagnosis and then to introduce them slowly and not to eat more than 50g in one day and coeliac children 15g which's just over 1/2 oz. Which does not inspire confidence in me so I avoid them.

I really miss oats, it used to be my favourite breakfast. Now I have to eat bacon and eggs or fruit. The GF stuff is expensive and has a similar effect on my bowel. Sad.

I can't eat GF Oats - try porridge with rice flakes, it is yummy. Sainsburys do one with rice & buckwheat in their ff section, otherwise you can get rice flakes from health food shops.

Oats are just as bad as 'normal' gluten for making me ill. I also read a small-sample medical study (with endoscopies) where they found that some people had damage from oats without having symptoms. I think there ought to be questions asked about the advice that oats are okay for coeliacs.

Oh no, keep off them! Even the gf oats. I tried, thinking I was being healthy, to introduce gf porridge and was very ill for months ended up back at gastroscopy! Bobs red mill do a mixed grain porridge which is an ok substitute if, like me, it's porridge you crave.

Both my sister and I are very sensitive e.g. cannot tolerate regular vinegar. I can eat GF oats but she cannot. Maybe she had more gut damage than me? You're not alone...

Hello. when I first saw my dietician I was told I could not have any oats for 6 months, and when I did want to try them, I had to clear it with her first, then they would monitor me, to make sure I didn't have any side affects, although I have been a coeliac for 2 yrs, I am still very nervous of trying porridge Oats, so I have never got around to trying them.

I presume they were gluten free oats that you ate. Marion

Thank you all for replying I have been gf now for nearly 2 yrs but had been told by dietician not to eat oats for at least 1 yr thought I would give oats a try but after the reaction ive had will be leaving them well alone

i tentatively ate oats a few years ago, all seemed well at first , but gradually i found i was feeling ill for no apparent reason and finally concluded it must be the oats, so cut them , then ate some this last weekend and was really ill. still recovering, so think oats may not be for me. Its the porridge and nice fresh crusty bread I so miss, but looking back the times I eat only naturally gluten free food are the times I feel most well,
