Hello. Glaucoma UK has never recommended B3. Research in ongoing and tends to be considered by a consultant if the persons glaucoma is advanced. It may be something to discuss at your next appointment if you are seeing a consultant. I have attached a link to UCL regarding B3.

Ah, the supplements! Gingko biloba, Coenzyme Q10, Nicotinamide etc. I had a short email conversation with a researcher in Australia about B3, and as with all the other things under study positve results are not yet forthcoming and the largest problem is that if they do work the necessary high dosages may be potentially harmful ! Q10 eyedrops were available without prescription but when there appeared to be positive feedback they were withdrawn and buried into research, and we await results. We can be understandably desperate for help, I know. I have a good diet, take "normal" Vitamin tabs, Boots Q10, and red wine (well, at least it is a comfort). My current concern is a further filtration procedure next week.....

I was recently told by my Glaucoma consultant to take vitamin B3 Niacin & Ginko biloba. Having done a bit of research I decided to try them.

Can anyone help with the best dosage?

I gradually built up to 1000mg a day of B3. That’s 4 tablets a day. So I take 2 after meals. Best to build up gradually to see if there are any side effects. I haven’t noticed any.

I have been taking it for over a year. My specialist said there was no harm in using it. Interested to hear if there is any further evidence for its use.

How often do you guys take these supplements? Daily?

My understanding re B3, is it's Nicotinamide that's recommended (3000 mg per day), not niacin B3.

Hello Niacin 123,

I have advanced glaucoma and last March, my Consultant (who happens to be a Professor), recommended that I take 1000mg of Nicotinamide daily. I too started with a lower dose of 500mg daily for 3 weeks before increasing to the full 1000mg daily. I take it at the start of my main meal of the day so that it is not in an empty stomach; I haven't had any problems.
