Hello,

My mum was diagnosed with glaucoma normal pressure.

Could you let me know which tonometer you use to measure eye pressure at home please?

Where to buy this tonometer please?

Thank you for your help.

Kind regards,

Icare home 2 is the most popular at home tonometer, they aren’t cheap though, about £2000. You can get them from mainline.co.uk

I have an iCare home 2. Would definitely recommend them. A bit tricky to use when you first get it, but once you've got it set up for you personally, and get used to it, it's really straightforward to use. If you're buying a tonometer for personal use, you might be able to buy it VAT-free. Worth looking at this: gov.uk/guidance/vat-relief-...

Am I right in thinking this requires probes, which are very expensive?

They do need probes, think they work out £1 or £2 each. They’re supposed to be single use, but I read a research paper about reusing them in 3rd world settings and I think they came to the conclusion that even reusing them across patients was a relatively low risk compared to the benefit of being able to screen a large population at low cost. I tend to reuse mine a few times. I use tweezers to remove the probe and put it back into the plastic vial.

Hello. As Jon1988 says, the iCare Home2 is popular, but you would also need to be shown how to use it by an eye specialist. I would also ask your eye specialist if they think it is necessary to purchase one, as it is a big investment.

I just go every 3 months to an optician and pay just for a pressure test just to keep track of my pressure inbetween my consultant appointments

Thank you very much for all your help. I found iCare Home 2 too. Just did not expect that no cheaper option available as definitely not everyone can afford to pay £2,000 for a tonometer.
