Driving Licence

Just had a nice surprise from the DVLA, apparently they sent me the wrong letter after my recent eye test and my medical review licence is valid for 5 years not 3. I didn’t realise they went to over 3 years so that was nice to know. They’re asking for my licence though which I already sent them following the last letter so I’m just hoping that 5 years not 3 will actually be on the new one 🙄.

Congratulations! Well that is a lovely surprise for you! I didn’t know they did 5 years licences either. I’ve only had 3 yr ones but had heard of 1 yr ones too. I would so like to know what DVLA’s criteria are for the different length licences.

I haven’t a clue and was really surprised, I’m still wondering if it is another admin error! I guess I’ll find out when I get my licence back.

That’s great news to hear and so pleased for you. Looking at the DVLA website they say medical licences can be valid for five years so well done and keep driving😊

Thank you so much 😊

So pleased for you. Perhaps it's another deregulation following Brexit. I'm sure I read that the current strict criteria are as a result of European law. I'm all for safer roads if the assessment is undertaken fairly and provides an accurate reflection of the person's suitability for driving. The evidence you submitted must have reassured the DVLA medical team that your sight is good for 5 years. Make the most of it.🚗

Thank you, I will do. Obviously the normal stipulations stand about any changes in vision, but hopefully all will be good. Good luck with yours.
