Welcome Sunshine8888. We are so glad you are finding the groups helpful and supportive.
I can honestly say I have learned so much in the last month. Reading replies to posts has given me vital information and I have a whole host of questions which hopefully Iβll be posting very soon. I believe every patient attending the eye hospital should be directed to this site, it has been amazing. Thank you to Glaucoma U.K. and the community π
Hi how old were you when diagnosed how is your sight I was only diagnosed in December full of anxiety
Hi Julie I was diagnosed when I was 48, I immediately had laser treatment and have been on drops ever since. I am 68 now. Over time I have had a variety of drops, all now preservative free. At the present I am on Monopost last thing at night and a combination of dorzolamide/timolol twice a day. My pressures have gone up and down over the twenty years. I live a very active life, drive everywhere, look after my grandchildren, travel, the condition has not as yet held me back! The consultants, doctors, pharmacists have been brilliant and now Iβve found Glaucoma U.K. after 20 years! So even more help is on hand. I was initially diagnosed with closed angle glaucoma and terrified when first told twenty years ago however Iβm very disciplined with my eye drops, keep my appointments and chase when they are delayed. With this condition I can lose my sight very quickly so I know what signs to look out for. So Julie believe me when I say you are in very good hands, be thankful the condition has been picked up and know there is help on hand! Please get back to me anytime and do let me know how you get on. Iβm back at the eye clinic this coming Tuesday, my pressures have risen significantly and was put on new drops a month ago. Not so sure Iβm getting on well with these so contacted hospital and being seen within a week of asking! So have no fears Julie you will be well looked after.
Thankyou so much for your very kind reply. You are an inspiration still driving and doing wonderful things with your grandchildren even after being diagnosed for 20 years. I will keep in touch with you definitely you have been so kind. Take care xx
You say you were diagnosed with closed angle has that changed to open angle because you said initially x
Hi JulieFor the first time ever and as a result of being a member of this group I have written a whole list of questions for my next visit. Hopefully there will be time ( I would suggest you do the same, I found a list of possible questions in one of the booklets you can download). Anyway on all my letters to the surgery it clearly states primary closed angle glaucoma, however when I phoned for advice last week, the very helpful nurse went through my notes. She said my angles were now open due to the laser treatment 20 years ago, so this is one of my questions for Tuesday. Since being diagnosed I have accepted medications without ever posing questions, through this site I have gained a lot of knowledge and it has inspired me to understand glaucoma and I now want to know more about my eye conditions, I also have cataracts, pseudoexfoliation and pigments not sure where in the eye? (this last one excited the consultants, at least three came to have a look! They showed me photos on the wall, but in their excitement forgot I couldnβt see anything due to the drops they had put it! They tried to explain to me, but it was too much to take in at the time) So hopefully it should be an interesting visit.
So you now have open angle it really is a strange disease and look how far you have come with it. Your amazing xx
And you will be too! x
