Corona Vaccine affects on Me

So thankful to have had my first jab of Corona Vaccine, for all of you with similar underlying health issues similar to myself(Heart Murmur, Asthma, Hyper Mobility Syndrome, Under Active Thyroid, Fibromyalgia, Hidradenitis Suppurativa, High Blood Pressure) I thought it might be useful to let you know how it went.

I was extremely surprised when my invite arrived, but took it to be due to anyone of my health issues. I am certain that wherever you are attending will be as safe, organised and efficient as where I attended, there were people dotted along routes to guide you to the right position, where I was ushered into a seat by my nurse, they asked straight forward questions, on-going health issues, allergies, pregnancy, immediate details(past few weeks health), at this point they said it was probably due to my Heart Murmur and Asthma that I was put forward. I was asked which arm I would prefer to receive, a wee wipe, slight nip and we were done, 7 minutes in total; fantastically pain free. I had expected to feel the liquid go in(like with Flu Jag), but No, nothing; I was given an after care info pamphlet and aloud to leave as I was being picked up, they tend to keep you 10-15 mins. just to make sure you are ok.

The day that I had my vaccine my arm reacted pretty similar to when I get the flu jag, warm and slightly achy, they ache worsened as the day went on and it was painful to touch, sleeping that night wasn't much fun. On waking the next day, I was so sore everywhere(Pain level off the scale), and I do mean everywhere, places I hadn't had pain in such a long time, this stayed with me all day and as usual the pain intensified throughout the evening and night; I had an extremely broken sleep. I had been told I'd probably experience a 'Flare Up' in my Fibromyalgia, but there really is no preparing for what hit's; I wasn't up for anything, films and binge watching; thankfully I have a wonderfully supportive family here at home so I was well taken care of. On getting up the next day there wasn't much change, the pain level was ever so slightly less and still absolutely everywhere(9-10), another unproductive day, though I was playing Mahjong and doing a lot of colouring-in to distract myself. On getting up today, three days later, my shoulder is still tender to touch and do more strenuous things, aches and pain levels are thankfully less again(7-8), pain intensifying on trying to do something, having a shower was more exhausting than usual and upper limbs extremely painful afterwords; pain levels worsening throughout the day(usual). I am certain that if I continue 'pacing' and being mindful that I will be back to my usual 2-3 pain level in a day or two. Then I will be concentrating on getting back on track with my Pain Management Practices and trying to get my pain levels lower.

I am still thankful to have had the opportunity in taking the vaccine, I am not looking forward to receiving the second one, but knowing I have my loving supportive family behind me, I know I will get through no matter what transpires. Perhaps the second one will not affect me quite as badly, this is what I will be focusing on over the next twelve weeks.

Anyhoo, there's how it affected me, I do wish each and everyone one of you an easier ride, though I do understand this will not be the case for some, be organised and get supplies in(what ever get's you through your tougher times), let those around you know you may need assistance; know you will get through, like with any other issue, you are not alone; we are only a few buttons away.

Remember and be kind to yourself.

Stay safe, keep well & be strong.

Hi Fibroska, I had a painful arm after my first jab, but it resolved after a couple of days, otherwise I was fine. Good description of the process and hopefully it won't be too long before everyone is covered and we can get back to normal.

Very helpful and wise words. I hope your pain levels are returning more to your normal. It sounds as if you’ve been self-managing very well and had good support from your family/support bubble. Being able to communicate how you are feeling and what others can do isn’t an easy thing to do. It’s important to note that everyone has different reactions. I was lucky and only had slight discomfort around the injection site for a couple of days whereas my partner was ill for a couple of days.
