Specialist physiotherapy for functional motor disorder in England and Scotland (Physio4FMD): a pragmatic, multicentre, phase 3 randomised controlled trial.
Like most studies there were some limitations: this happens in large randomized clinical trials—where the main outcome measure does not reflect a statically significant difference. And it definitely shows the many challenges of a large RCT in a very heterogeneous population. Particularly it reflects the difficulty in outcome measurement in this group. .
Conclusion (the end bit):
"The subjective improvements in symptom ratings along with the very high levels of satisfaction with treatment, suggest that specialist physiotherapy could be a valued and safe treatment option for some people with functional motor disorder."

hi, I was on this trial and found it very helpful. My walking was only 40% of normal just kept falling into walls, doors and specially if they were open. But my walking is now at 65/70% of normal. Also helped with speech but then Covid hit and my trial was cancelled ( they needed the space) and we didn’t get to the thinking part and help which I needed and still do. And it appears that as in general it worked it will not be taken up. I was in the specialist group under neuro-physio , I was told at the time they were going to set up and FND unit but I don’t think they have. It’s a shame as it dealt with walking, talking and thinking and it worked. Any way that’s my story. Kevin
Wow. Thats great it work but sad a unit hasn't been set up yet. I got the impression it was the start of many trials to come but they shouldn't promise what they can't deliver ... yet.
