Anyone experience temperature dysregulation or unilateral flushing as part of their FND?

Hey all,

Has anyone had experiences with their temperature regulation getting messed up with FND? Below I wrote out what I'm experiencing. Just unsure if it's related to FND :/ I also have a thyroid condition (for over a decade), which I know affects temperature regulation, this seems very different.

I was given a diagnosis of conversion disorder (by a psychiatrist), somatoform disorder (GP), and FND (psychologist who works at a specialized somatoform clinic near me) about 2 years ago.

2.5 years ago I had my first really bad episode (inability walking, speaking, temporary paralysis, mutism- as a few). But something that start even before then was my temperature regulation got really messed up. I used to normally run on the cooler side. I recall most of this started about half a year before my first bad episode of FND.

I'd been reaching out for support from medical professionals about it since before my first bad episode of fnd. Got screened for diabetes and my thyroid levels were checked. Nothing came of it.

Symptoms

A) I'll be reading and sedentary and suddenly become too hot, sweating+flushed+dizzy. This can last half an hour to hours at a time. Sometimes when that happens it will swing from being that overheated to being really cold and shivering-back and forth over the next few hours.

B) excessive sweating. I used to not really notice my sweating that much, just happened when it was really hot out or I was exercising hard. I started having rolling sweat off my face, neck and torso from walking, light exercise, or sitting in the sun.

C) unilateral flushing. I notice it on my face. Mostly my cheek, nose, neck, sometimes forehead. It'll be deep pink, and hot to the touch. While the other side of my face (and rest of body to my knowledge) is unaffected. It happens to both my left and right side separately. Sometimes it is so intense that it feels like a bad sunburn and hurts.

Has anyone experienced any of these, or things similar? Just looking for support on what other people have done.

Hi alaslizards

I was diagnosed with FND in 2018 I think? I feel your pain 🥶🥵 as girl that is always cold even in the summer I can find a cold spot, and I’ve been through the menopause at the age of 38 the hot sweats I could deal with, but this is on another level. Like you say it’s only the my head that burns like it’s on fire🔥 and my head and neck burst out in sweat and I feel like I’m going to pass out. I should have said that this has usually followed by me feeling freezing cold first 🥶. I still suffer my speech, walking , spaced out moments and weakness in my right hand side and have debilitating migraines. My gp isn’t happy with my neurologist’s treatment or diagnosis so now I have now been referred to our national neurological hospital for a second opinion on the 1st December. I had an mri back in 2019 showed mild global atrophy, which in itself isn’t a problem if you’re in your 70’s but I’m 46 so is something to be concerned about and he hasn’t picked up on that and I’ve had no treatment for the FND either.

I hope you find answers or treatment for your temperature fluctuations 🥰

Much love

Jayne
