Hi guys, my wife was diagnosed as having NEAD a few years ago - i thought i would join here to see and share experiences and ask what helps and what doesn't - she tends to just become light headed with what she describes as a pressure on her head, she struggles to snap out of it and I have no idea how to help, so advice is welcome, when she's out of it she goes for hour or so an as i say i have no clue how to help the advice given was to ride it out but when you have kids this isn't always practical

Hi lovely, they sound more like ‘absence’ type seizures where she’s expieriencing altered consciousness, has she tried any ‘grounding’ techniques? Sensory stimulation/mindfullness might work for her it’s about trying to ground in the present so things like giving her something to focus on such as a a stress toy, pine cone, ice cube that she can hold, smell such as lighting an insincere stick, smelling some aromatherapy oils, anything that you can think of to help her come out of that state...I’m sure you wouldn’t do this, but I’ve heard of people slapping or pinching others to try to bring them out of it please don’t do that it’s not nice and very upsetting. Meditation is also advised as really beneficial, also mental exercises like trying to count backwards on her head, that kind of thing...as she’s feeling ‘light headed’ the other thing you can do to help is make sure she’s safe, I know it sounds obvious but no cooking or even making hot drinks and definately no driving untill she feels clear headed again...you’ve mentioned your kids I’m guessing they know that their mum has ‘funny turns’? If any of these ideas help it might be worth while talking them through it so they know what to do to help too when you are not around...hope that helps a bit, it’s such a hard condition to manage, isn’t it ?😊

Hi, appreciate the response - yes the kids are aware of her "funny turns" and are old enough to assist in some way - heard of people slapping and pinching out of it! - I witnessed a doctor do this - I just can't do it!!! - no we have never tried sensory techniques though, so will try to give it a try. Does anyone know what their triggers are? We were told it's stress related but I was wondering what other peoples triggers were if they had anything specific?

Good morning! How often does she have them? Has she attended a FND programme?
