Hi there! The lung scarring that occurs in pulmonary fibrosis can't be reversed. No current treatment has proved effective in stopping progression of the disease, unfortunately. Some treatments may improve symptoms temporarily or slow the disease's progression. Others may help improve quality of life. There are two medications that can help slow down the progression of IPF in some people: pirfenidone and nintedanib.
Some people also take a medication called N-acetylcysteine. Although its benefits are uncertain.
