Hello! Does anyone know how long it takes from a clinic applying for a new condition to be added to the HFEA list of PGD conditions until this is approved? Thank you X
HFEA Licence: Hello! Does anyone know... - Fertility Network UK
HFEA Licence
Hi
It can take quite a long while ours was a simple test as the gene passes from male to female. It still took quite a while but this was in 2015 so it might have changed. Has the clinic not giving you an indication of time scale? I know I checked the HFEA website to see when the condition was on there and then once it was it wasn't that long. Sorry I can't be more specific as it was quite a long while ago since my partners condition was applied for. If you want to chat just message back as I know its a scary process.
Thanks x
Hello!
Thank you for your response.
I don’t have any indication of time scale because actually my clinic hasn’t applied for my licence yet! The Genetic Counsellor at my clinic is on Annual Leave at the moment so they said they will apply for the condition once she’s back in September. I have an appointment with her in September as well so I should be able to find out more then, but I was just wondering how long this would take as everything seems to take a very long time...
Thanks xx
Hi, I had a appointment over the phone yesterday and she went through loads of information and she mentioned I will have to sign some forms and then she could apply for a license She will be on annul leave from tomorrow so it will be in September for me too.
The whole process is a long time unfortunately but the fertility side things could be done sooner depending on waiting list etc.
Hi
Just seen you message that is annoying that she hasn't submitted it yet. I have had a think and I know we went to see the genetics counsellor in the December they then had to get help from my partners team that look after him and then applied in the February of 2016. I then was around July time that we had been granted the licence but like I said ours was just sex testing. I know once you have the licence they then have to come up with the a way to test the embroys so it depends what the condition is to what they can do when testing the embryos. I have had two cycles of PGD and it is hard going and a long process of waiting. Even when they do the testing of embryos the wait is so long. Please make sure you have a good support network around you. I have made two friends via this forum who also did PGD and they have helped me so much. More than happy to chat more as I have found that it is important to have poeple to speak to who have been through the same thing so you can relate to them. Good luck and hope your genetics councellor gets the licences sorted soon. Xxx
If I’m correct it take 6 months as I was talking to a genetic counsellor yesterday and she mentioned.
Hi Lola. Just have to keep checking with the HFEA I'm afraid. Diane
