Bras and wired/non wired

When did you stop wearing underwired bras? I’m nearly 20 weeks and still wearing them ooops! I’ve got quite a large chest and worried they won’t be supported if I go wireless but heard it can block your milk ducts getting ready for producing milk? Thanks x

hello! I’ve been wearing from 12 wks, i have a pretty big chest too and find the m&s t-shirt non-wired are pretty good (also have a panel on the front which helps with lower cut tops!) x

I was told not to wear underwires by my sister, at 15 weeks I went for a fitting in m and s they straight away recommended non wired and I have found them really comfy, also tshirt bras.

I wore my normal bras throughout my pregnancy. I now have a 5week old and am breastfeeding with no issues with supply or blocked ducts yet (obviously wearing non wired nursing bras now) but I think you can wear whatever you like, as long as you feel comfortable!

Hiya, I wore underwires throughout the whole pregnancy too and currently typing whilst breastfeeding - no problems with milk ducts at all. I’m at 34GG at the mo and just ordered an amazing underwired nursing bra from bravissimo which arrived last week. Thoroughly recommend for great support postpartum!

Hi PrincessGurn, I have a large chest and was worried too that non wired bras wouldn't support me but I was wrong, started wear non wired bra at about 16 weeks, they are soo comfortable compared to wired and they do support me. I don't think I'll ever go back to wired now! As others have suggested go get yourself measured x

I have an extremely large chest that grew two cup sizes during early pregnancy. I didn’t fully move out of non wired I just bought nursing bras which were much comfier. Although the bra shop tried to dissuade me from doing this and I still to this day have no idea why.

Hi Princess - another shout for M&S here. I’m an E cup and was also worried about lack of support but these are great, and they’re in the sale now too: marksandspencer.com/body-no...

I think they might also be the ones someone mentioned above as it also has a panel at the front x

yes these are the ones! In the sale too! That being said i’d go and get measured for them as i had mine pre-pregnancy and they’re starting to feel a bit small x

I went up to a 32K(!) during pregnancy and it I think frankly it would have been a safety risk for myself and others if my boobs hadn't been properly supported and under control :) I couldn't find any non wired to fit so I went to an excellent independent bra fitter who got me fitted and comfy wired ones (pm me if you want any brand recommendations). I think the issue of blocked ducts is if you're wearing a badly fitting bra that digs in or sits on the breast tissue (the wires should run between boobs and basically up under armpit, not sit on the tissue). The only time I went with nothing or a soft one was when my milk first came in and learning to feed at home when tbh you're boobs are out so often and so uncomfortable that a bra was an extra hassle :)

I stopped around 15 weeks just because I’m more comfortable actually wearing a non wired sports bra. I did get a non wired maternity bra from Bravissimo but have had to return it, as I found it uncomfortable as the day wore on. As I was fitted by them they accepted a return after I’d worn it a few times. I think it didn’t suit me because the elastic under my breasts was too narrow and not supportive enough so ended up digging in just like an underwire did!

Comfort is king right now so what ever you find most comfortable I would say is best!
