Hosp just called and my viability scan is on Monday 27th June. I'll be about 5.5 weeks I doubt they would see heartbeats that soon ???

Did you account for adding on the 2 weeks prior to your ec date? As it's 3.5 weeks away, I am assuming you will be almost 7.5 - 8 weeks by then, otherwise you are only 2 weeks pregnant now in medical terms and that would be impossible to pick up on a hpt. In a natural cycle, you wouldn't even have ovulated by now! You should see a hb by then if you're 7.5 weeks.

I'm sorry you will probably think I'm being a bit dumb, all k know is that my last period was 6/5/16, I had egg collection 18/5/16 and transfer was 23/5/16. My hpt today says 2-3 weeks. So the Hosp booked my scan for 27/5/16.

Why would I count from last period as that's not when eggs fertilised ?? Eggs were collected 18th may so that's the day of fertilisation , no??

I'm confused 😚 Xx

No worries - it is confusing! They always take the first day of last period as day 1 because if you were to conceive naturally, most people wouldn't know when they ovulated so it's easier for them to calculate it from day 1 of last period to account for this. The only reason we know fertilisation date is because we've been through IVF and have definite dates. Didn't the clinic tell you how many weeks along you are? Seems odd that they didn't explain it.

The hpt you used only tells you the number of weeks since ovulation/fertilisation, it doesn't account for these 2 extra weeks, so that test is quite misleading. I know it's confusing because the clinic consider you pregnant for those 2 weeks when clearly you weren't. But it's Just how they calculate it.

There are loads of online calculators to tell you how far along you are, if you put in your ec or et dates it will tell you for sure. But based on your lmp (last menstrual period), you will be just over 7 weeks at your scan.

I think I've got it , so if my hpt says today 2-3 weeks I'm actually 4-5 weeks ? And scan is in 3 weeks from now so I'll be 7-8 weeks at scan?

So now my question is , if morning sickness normally starts at around 6 weeks , that means from I do happen to start having sickness at this time it should be in a few weeks?

I feel extremely tired is there anything I can take ?

Right now you're 4w3d according to this calculator - fertilityfriends.co.uk/inde...

So you should be 7w3d approx by the time of your scan. It'll be around then that you'll start to feel the morning sickness but everyone is different and you might not feel anything or it might kick in later. Sometimes your sense of smell gets really sharp too.

As for tiredness, the first trimester is exhausting and I was lucky enough to work from home so I took afternoon naps. Not much you can do for it except go to bed earlier and take naps when needed. I've continued to drink tea (only up to 3 cups a day) but I know some women cut out caffeine completely, so this is something you'd have to look into and make your own choice on. I don't know if drinking lots of water could help or perhaps you need iron supplements. You should be getting a blood test anyway so they'll tell you if iron levels are low.

Not what you're looking for?
