Hi had Bells palsy 26years ago and am in the percentage where it left me with synkinese. Also week eye on affected side. Have got on with my life living with it I am still not good with photos. Information is much better now with facial palsy uk and the intranet. What brings me here is recently diagnosed with something unrelated had to have an eye test and the new OCTscan they do. The staff at the opticians A big well known one need education was asked to hold my hand over affected eye for around 20 minutes while leaning forward uncomfortably. In the end told them couldn't do it anymore. Total lack of understanding told them numerous times eye affected by Bells. Just a heads up if you need this test at opticians.

Hi. Sorry you had this experience. Do you go for regular opthalmic appts with a specialist as well as seeing your high street optician? Laura

If you email me at support@facialpalsy.org.uk we could discuss where we could get you a specialist referral to see if there's any way we could help you to get your eye seen, and to improve your synkinesis.

Hi. I had Bells 6yrs ago after having dental operation. I was left with weak muscles on right side along with synkinese of right eye. I go to my local opticians and have regular scans. I have always told them about my bells. I have never been asked to do any odd things! I have regular acupuncture which helps for a while. I have learnt that cold winds make my eye worse so try and keep face and eye warm
