My 4 year old son still wears a pull up as he won't sit on the toilet to do a poo but he will for a wee??! πŸ™ˆ

My son who is aged 4 refuses to sit on the loo to do a poo. He will wee on the loo but if the toilet is mentioned he has a meltdown. I'm concerned as he starts school in September and feel pressurised to make sure he's out of pull ups before then.

He asks for a pull up and does what we call the poo dance, where he is on tip toes and he normally hides behind a curtain. Sometimes it's hard to see as it looks like he struggles to get it out. We are on our 3rd lots of different medicine to try and help him go easier. He drinks plenty of water and eats well. Anyone else have this problem?

My granddaughter was wary of the toilet after previous toilet training had not ended well, but she had problems with loose stools that she couldn't control.

If he is doing large hard stools in his pullups it might be an idea to have him empty the poo from the pullup into the toilet.

This reinforces the idea that this is where his poo belongs.

I’ve just bought my son a fluffy toilet seat cover for just him to use (no one else) he loves it!

I have no answers but in exactly the same situation - just to send support to you.

We have got our daughter to a point where she will sit on the loo - even with a hole in her nappy- but can’t get her any further!

Any advice would be great- I am too anxious about her starting school in Sept as she is naughty and does not concentrate when she needs to go!

It's great that she sits on the loo I guess in time she will go. Take care and sending you support and encouragement that she will do this soon xx

I'm in a very similar situation your not alone. My daughter is due to start school this year. I wouldn't push it ( not that you would ) because he could go back. My daughter struggles to go even in a pull up at the moment. If you feel he's ready to moove forward maybe ask him to try going in the bathroom. Still in his pull up but it's kind of the right environment. Maybe try praising straight after with a reward. My daughter has a " fairy box" she decorated it herself an old shoe box. When she's been she puts the fiary box by the door. Then at some point when I can I slip a suprise in it. It made her feel very special ect. Only an idea but honestly I would worry. Easy for me to say I no, oh and your doing great 😁

Awwww thank you so much for your lovely reply 😘

Will try the shoe box idea I like that 😊

It's so awful to see him struggling going for a poo let alone with trying to get him to sit on the toilet when he's struggling to go in a pull up.

Also so nice to know I'm not on my own with this xx
