Can anyone explain to me Refractory Epile... - Epilepsy Society
Can anyone explain to me Refractory Epilepsy and what treatments have people experienced?
Hi, the below information has been copied from another link... I hope it helps!
"Having refractory epilepsy means that someone has seizures that are difficult to control with epilepsy medicines. Treatment is generally tried with one of the epilepsy medicine at a time (monotherapy), then a combination of medicines may be tried (polytherapy). The doctor will try and get the best control possible. You can find more information about the management of epilepsy on our website.
Sometimes epilepsy surgery may be an option for some people with refractory epilepsy. This might be with epilepsy surgery, the vagal nerve stimulation (VNS) or deep brain stimulation."
I am sure you will find more information from one of the websites, i.e. Epilepsy Action U.K. or maybe Epilepsy South Africa!
