Lamotrogine

I am currently on 350mg of lamotrogine tablets i take them daily every night and have been for a while now and i am just wondering if anyone else gets side affects as though you are drunk? Because when they kick in i am very unstable when walking and cannot talk properly without sluring and become very tired .

i think its a fairly common side effect. I get it some times also but it normally subsides within an hour or so.

I noted that you said you take your lamotrogine in the evening, is that because you only have nocturnal seizures?. Normally Lamotrogine is given twice a day to maintain a stable blood level over 24 hours. Rather than having a spike in the blood level soon after taking it.

Could it be that if you split the dose into a morning and evening dose it might help avoid that?

I would see your GP about it.

I take the tablets at night because i was getting the affect in the morning and i couldnt cope at college because i couldnt walk properly at all just like i cant at night so i no longer wanted to take them in the morning.

I'm on 550mg of lamotrigine , it does get better after time . But I would ring your epilepsy nurse or consultant because it could be that the tablets are not right for you. If you feel that bad all the time it's not nice. Are you coming off a drug and switching to lamotrigine? Because it also could be the switch over effect I never deal with that very well. I would find out what is happening

No i have been on this medication for around a year now. How long did it take you to get used it roughly.

I had a feeling you would ask me that after about 4months things did get better but I was changing from one tablet to another and was on lamotrigine and primadone liquid form

I was like that a while ago i was changing from keppra onto lamotrogine and i narrowed the affects onto that but even now after a year of just been on lamotrogine i still get the side affects really bad.

I'm on lamotrigine keppra which I wouldn't be with out and zonegran know one knows the right combination but now after years of them changing them I refuse to go through anymore I don't think I can stand it yes I have fits once a month but instead of 3 in a row it's just 1 grandmal and a few jerks and that seems to be since I added some extra vitamins. I have now be diagnosed with Irlen syndrome and will need special glasses hopefully these will help with my headaches. Look it up I had never heard about it before until my son was diagnosed with it.

I know I change the subject a lot but I got very excited when I heard about Irlen syndrome and how much it could help. The states are so much more advanced than we are medically!!!

As we all know both epilepsy and the anti epilepsy drugs AEDs are all very different and peculiar to us. What is one mans meat is another mans poison.

Every AED has side effects and slurred speech can be one of these peculiar to Lamotrogine.

You do not say what other AEDs that you are taking, because all AEDs can conflict with each other.

The best advice that I have to give you is to telephone your neurologists secretary tomorrow requesting a early appointment to see your neurologist as you are having quite a few problems that are affecting you badly.

The only medication i am on is lamotrogine? And thats it so no other tablets can be causing a conflict

I don't know how long these you use medication Lamotrigine, specifically to Epilepsy, even if this dosage using was the same one I used.

The side effects that arose in me was the "rash", slight dizziness, and effects of that recall, because for a long time my doctor Assistant abandoned the attempt to improve my epileptic state.

I don't remember losing the instability the floor or feel drunk or instability the floor. Tired all Neuro anti-epileptic tends to manifest itself.

I've done some checking, looks like you need some vitamin levels checking out as their commonly low with Lamotrigine, these are Vid D commonly very very low, B6 the same low and Calcium. Also, that said other nutrients I'd get checked are their cofactors magnesium and Vit K.

When your vitamin D is quite low you can walk about as if your drunk, but need a drink to sober up so you can walk straight, been there... Hope that helps...
