What’s your number one trigger for your Epilepsy?
Combination of some of these factors usually is the trigger; one alone doesnt tend to affect much - usually combination: 1) of lack of sleep + 2) not taking my meds + 3) alcohol or stress or working on a focused job on the computer, e.g. Excel spreadsheets with numbers etc...
My other trigger is boredom, but luckily it does not occur very often
Also tiredness & stress at work will trigger an episode
If you look at this discription of Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy: epilepsy.org.uk/info/syndro...
it describes me perfectly! Before Having any control, I had those three types of seizures, usually the T-C ones were first thing in the morning and almost always when I hadn't slept well or had stayed up late. Alcohol may have sometimes also contributed, although usually this was combined with the staying up late!
3 things affect me. Physical exertion, stress and tiredness
HEAT & HUMIDITY! STRESS COMES SECOND!
Not had fit for ... 15 20 years, thank god !
But short absences usually follow tiredness, stress, not enough sleep.
Hi Jon
My names Tony I'm 49 had epilepsy most of my life but throughout it has changed I guess due to control your triggers sound exactly like mine of which I'm trying to establish a pattern .im working and my job is important to me and my family but I am having absences more since I started this job which I had not on previous ones it is stressful sometimes and I don't get as much sleep as I'd like to .
Do you have any similar circumstances regarding sleep/stress like is it because of your job or just life in general as if I am convinced it's my job I'm gonna leave as it's too late in the day to have the hassle that is coming along with my job accepting it.
Any thoughts would be very much appreciated
Antonio
When I take a lot of water I feel less drowsy through the day
Several triggers equally troublesome, stress, lack of sleep, environments where too much going on in confined space, restraunts, cafe's. pub's, private parties etc. (crowds with multiple conversations in background), anxiety and frustation at getting things wrong.
I try not to get stressed to much as I know it makes me bad. I stay away from anything that doesn't agree with me, not working to much, keep excitement too a fairly low level, but still enjoy myself as far as I can.
fatigue and stress.
Mine is stress, anxiety and lack of sleep.
Stress and sleep plus meds. I get confused and have often taken wrong dosages or missed doses but now hve them prepped in sealed dossete packs (months supply at a time) and easier to keep up to date asthe days and time of day clearly labelled by pharmacy so the dosage problem no longer.
The tiredness and fatigue can become a vicious circle because the seizure cause fatigue and trying to make up ground lost makes it worse which then causes stress which feed the fire.
The fatigue is particularly hard to cope with as my epilepsy is caused by inoperable diffuse left temporal lobe tumour and I get no aura prior to seizure (complex partial) and blanks that are scary because I can be active through that time not knowing what I'm doing or where I am going.
a lot of people at ones talking to me so I have to turn my head from side to side the whole time
USUALLY NOT TAKING MY MEDS , BUT CAN BE CAUSED BY A COMBINATION OF A LACK OF SLEEP, FORGETTING TO TAKE MEDS, STRESS OR SIMPLY OVER DOING THINGS
Everyone is generalising about their triggers but not really saying what causes those triggers job /pressure stress etc
Please can you help as I'm in the process of deciding if my job is affecting My quality of life too much by idiotic management
I'd /we do not need that due to our conditions
Anyonio
Wish i knew...
Mine is lack of sleep & flashing lights, thought it was TV screens & such like to begin with
A lot apply difficult to pick one
Who else is having problems getting their AED Vimpat? I’m going to be day 1 without tomorrow because?
Insurance doesn’t cover me out of town,
Vimpat was made a controlled drug and I have to go to an ER to try and get a “written script in CA, my Mo written script is worthless? Now the Walmart doesn’t carry this expensive Epilepsy med and keep it on their many shelves. I pay up to $850 for this med along with Keppra and BP yadda yadda. So....why is it so hard for me to get this med that’s keeping my seizures controlled? Tomorrow or tonight they will start soon. Something just isn’t right?
Seizures been under control for a while now but the number one trigger was flying, which I guess is a combination of tiredness, physical stress and nasty lighting. Every time without exception I'd have a seizure, either during the flight or within 24 hours of landing. That said all of the above can be triggers, except menstruation, which would be weird given my gender
I find the hassles of dealing with the benefit system and care packages which cause me to have to go back over bad seizures, accidents and risks in order to provide proof of my seizures aggravates my seizures more than anything! Hormones also play a large part.
Whoops, Just realised how long ago this post was intially posted!
Combination - Stress + Alcohol
tiredness and not eating/drinking enough will trigger one with me
Had an episode while donating blood and now I've been banned. Sad really because my blood group is A negative - which I understand is not too common.
