Hi

I wanted ask if anyone else has experienced similar symptoms.

Over the last 2 months my condition has got worse .

My mom has been having episodes of being unresponsive. She was taken into hospital last week and the doctors confirmed she had been having seizures and up her medication.

However over the last few weeks her behaviour has changed she stays in bed most the day.

She has lost interest in day to day activities like washing, dressing and just going out.

The strangest part is that she says she has been having conversations with family that have passed away.

The only thing that has not changed is that she is eating

Before she went into hospital she was refusing to take her meds

And we discovered that she had not been taking her meds but saying she had.

We do not know if she is going to get better or is this it. Her CT scan showed extensive damage to the temporal lobes from HSV encephalitis. Which has not improved

However physically the doctors said her stats were ok other than her being frail

Encephalitis recovery is a long journey . Specialists advise that the first two years will see the biggest recovery improvements , and at the end of that time you’ll have an indication of how much your mum will recover . We are different . I was reliant on my dad & husband in my first year of recovery, as my memory was so poor . But things did improve in my second year.

Tell your mum’s specialists that you’re concerned that your mum is speaking to people who aren’t really there . The Drs are the best people to advise you about that .

What treatment have they been giving her for that? My 29 year old son has been home with us for over a month now, and he was doing home infusions of Rituxan and steroids. Huge improvement, but speech is still a struggle, and sometimes has hard time sleeping.
