Has anyone taken lorastan potassium and it caused hemoglobin to decrease?

I was on losartan for years without any problems. However, that drug commonly lowers Hgb significantly, even to the point of anemia.

I have been on it for a few years( low dose 50 mg AM 25 mg PM ) plus Amlodapine 10 mg AM My doctor says it is protective to the kidneys.

For me it is perfect gives me BP of a teenager usually about 120 / 70

I am a 67 year old female , over weight , kidney disease stage 3A which I rolled back to stage 2 by stopping cherry Pepsi, potatoes, and eating Organic cabbage and organic red bell peppers everyday .

Yes losartan MAY reduce hemoglobin levels. But it is not just losartan it is the entire class of this type of drug.. In general this happens with any ACE inhibitor or ARB medication depending upon dosage. Primarily this happens with people who have diabetes. It is usually NOT a significant drop in Hemoglobin for those patients without diabetes. BUT the benefits of the drug (at proper dosage!!!) far outweigh the risks and is therefore a widely accepted drug. Now when you are into later stages of CKD it is a different story but even then the adjustment of dosage allows maintaining sufficient hemoglobin levels.One has to remember about almost any drug that there ARE side effects. But the drugs exist and are approved for use because their necessity and benefits outweigh the side effects. AND if it is found, after taking the drug, that the side effects are abnormal or disruptive, you simply stop taking that drug. But this is why these drugs are not over the counter. That a doctor administers (prescribes) the drug, monitors the patients reaction. ARB's and ACE inhibitors are WIDELY used and approved even for those with CKD.
