I know different energy companies charge different rates but it would give me an idea at least.
hi, can anybody tell me how much approxim... - Dialysis Support
hi, can anybody tell me how much approximately it costs to run a home dialysis machine per month?
Hi SPARKY1,
I can only speak about the operating costs for the NxStage sytem at home: Approx. quarterly electricity cost is £70 (depending on your electricity cost / kWh). Consumption is approx. 270 kWh / quarter (you would normally only be reimbursed based on your tariff for above 900 kWh/year total electricity consumption) .
Water cost is approx. £2.70 / quarter - 2 m3 / quarter
Waste cost is approx. £2.50 / quarter - 1.8 m3 / quarter
I have no idea what it costs for say a Fresenius or similar but substantially higher I suspect, certainly in terms of water consumption.
The NxStage dialysis m/c is by fr the less expensive to operate both in terms of electrical power consumption and water / waste water. Consumtion I can also confirm being as given by MikeB. it is therefore the most environmentally friendly dialysis m/c available yet
Your PCT should reimburse all costs back to yourself on presentation of the quarterly invoices to them
As side issue the operating consum, ables are less; I think about 600 l / session of water for conventional m/c compared to 25 l max with the NxStage and so it takes less total space in your home and may be transported for vacation use
hi DavidJW, thanks for the information, however at my unit they use the Hospal Integra which is a much larger machine and probably more expensive to run, suppose i will have to wait and see what the costs are. Thanks anyway.
at my unit I get a fixed £79 per quarter that is for doing 5 sessions of 3 hours on a Nikkisso machine and Purite RO.
I am not reimbursed for any heating/lighting which under current legislation (some 30 years old) we are supposed to be supported with and have been trying to get this changed for the last 3 years without any success!
I am not on a water meter and also think that those on APD should be reimbursed something as whilst the machine may not use much energy it all depends on the time a person is on it for before coming off it due to transplantation/change of modality etc......
hi pgt67, thanks for your reply regarding HHD costs, it's a pity they don't reimburse heating/lighting costs as that may be a large portion of extra expenses incurred. I am trying to get a copy of the 1974 guidelines mentioned by Dr. Donal in a post on here. However, he asked for a PM to be sent but don't know how to do this. Thanks anyway.
The NKF should have these guidelines.
You will get a set amount via your NHS trust, usually reimbursed to the bill payer, via the hospital finance department. Once this is set up, all you will need to do is send copies of quarterly bills. Payment is usually via cheque or BACS payment to a bank account
your Home Heamo Nurse should be able to sort this out for you. They can also advocate for you if you still have issues.
