Hi! I have been on Hemo for about a year...

And I’m a 33 year old college student earning a second bachelors degree and about to get a full time job - hopefully. My first transplant was from my mother at age 6 - and lasted 26 years. Now I’m trying to get on two separate transplant lists and still find time to play with my cat.

One thing that I have learned while on HD - besides getting used to canalization and the alarms - is that you never know how you are going to feel when you get off the machine. However, Hemo also won’t run your life if you don’t let it. I stick to my treatment times like glue, but I also remember that I am a college student as well and try to keep myself occupied as much as I can.

That's cool that you're able to be in school and on dialysis at the same time! Do you use your on time to study or write papers on a laptop? I enjoy reading for pleasure while I'm on dialysis - it makes the time fly by! I do agree that after a dialysis session I am mostly too wiped to do anything much, but I do recover the next day. Good luck with getting another transplant - I'm on a transplant list as well.

I never listened to audio books until I was on HD. It is wonderful for me now. Takes me away from the negatives of being hooked up and almost blocks the sounds of the machines. Thanks
