Gout complications

Hi w

I was just wondering if any one else suffers from gout. I have a number of tophi on my fingers which are not painful but don't look nice. I stub my big toe 7 days ago and was really painful as that also has a tophi on it so the doctor sent me for an x-ray and it was sent back to the gp withiwithin an hour as I have been told that my toe joint has been destroyed. I have been told what the next step is and was wondering if any one can help.

Thanks and merry Christmas to you all

Hi

Gout used to be a problem to me too. It seemed to last for weeks, go for a bit then come back again. The trouble with having kidney failure is you can't have some of the tablet remedies....

I try to eat food low in purines....

This link was useful to me in deciding this....

mayoclinic.org/healthy-life...

I also eat lots of cherries when they are in season and drink montmorency cherry juice when they are not. (I get mine from Holland and Barrett)

Also I find a vitamin c tablet each day helps.....

Hope this is useful to you...

Best wishes....

Margaret

Thank you Margaret. I saw a rheumatologist yesterday that showed me the x-ray and the big toe joint has been destroyed and all she could do was inject me with a high dose of steroid. They won't fuse the toe until I have my kidney issue resolved.

I already drink and eat cherries and also take apple cider vinegar twice daily with its meant to help

Thanks again

Steroids worked well on my thumb joints, years ago..... lasted a while too.....they're lumpy still but no pain...

Hoping it works for you too.....
