Almonds and nuts except cashew and pista are good.Dates are too sweet and so avoid.About oats there are conflicting opinions. Some say they are highly glycemic and therefore should be avoided and others say they have a very high fiber content and therefore their glycemic value has to be adjusted accordingly and consumed as a safe food for diabetics.Cereals are rich in carbohydrates and so should be minimized and whole grains like ragi, sorghum and wheat are preferable over rice and processed flours like maida, corn flour etc.Apple is a fruit, rich in many nutrients and therefore allowed occassionally. Popcorn is just a carbohydrate and so better avoided completely. These are some of the opinions I have gathered from various sources, but could be wrong. It is a very good question and I hope there will be good participation.Look forward to it.

Diabetes patients too are advised to consume fruits like pappia, apple and citrus fruits in less

quantity to improve resistance from diseases as the fruits contain amino acids which is helpfull

in this regard .So check your blood sugar after taking limitted quantity of fruits and have a

shedule for your health condition and lead a normal healthy life

Wheat flour in any form (maida, wholewheat atta) raise blood sugar. However, Nuts (almonds, groundnuts) are good as they have good protein and less carbs. When eating an Apple, be sure to consume a handful of roasted peanuts and the sugar spike in our blood is not too sudden. Sweet papaya is bad, medium sweet is good.

Instead of gulping fruit juices, it is advisable to eat Oranges and other similar fruits. Popcorn is advisable to eat because it is fluffy and we can munch it for long without adding too much food. Eggs, Cheese, Ghee, Butter are all good and do not spike your blood sugar

Dates & apples are certainly not good for diabetics. Any sweet thing will increase blood sugar. If you are on medicine you may not know its ill effects soon; it will be slow & invisible for a very long time. By the time one come to know, it would have become ir-reversable.

Please read my experience with fruits when I was diabetic, at: appropedia.org/Diabetes_mel...

The text below is a "COPY&PASTE STUFF" from my previous replies to some others.

IF YOU HAVE ALREADY SEEN IT, KINDLY IGNORE THIS.

Diabetes is a fundamental disorder. It is comparable with low voltage in an electric circuit. In both cases all connected subsystems will under-perform and will fail in due course. It will affect SEX life also, if diab is not contained. Diab impairs the glucose (SUGAR) & oxygen supply to ALL CELLS of the patient. You cannot compensate the resultant weakness with liquor, food or medicines.

A DIABETES PATIENT (also known as A DIABETIC) need NOT starve. PROPER or APPROPRIATE food can be eaten EVEN FULL STOMACH THRICE DAILY! Try to understand diabetes & conquer it.

TAKING MEDICINES ALONE WILL NOT BRING DOWN BLOOD SUGAR ALWAYS. YOU HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR FOOD HABITS & LIFE STYLE ALSO TEMPORARILY TILL CURE.

I was diabetic from 2006; but NOT diabetic from 2009. I studied Diabetes thoroughly, because it was to solve MY problem.

Do you want to see my experience and blood sugar history from 2006 to 2013? Those are reported at: appropedia.org/Diabetes_mel... If you want only MODUS OPERANDI, GO TO appropedia.org/Diabetes_mel...

Please report your future experience (good or bad) here for the benefit of others.

Please suggest which cereals preferable - Jowhar, Bajra, Ragi, Barley, Wheat or any other in order of preference. Vegetarian diabetics are bound to include some quantity of cereals into their diet. Is it beneficial to add Gram flour in Wheat atta? Or can we get our own blend of multigrain made at home instead of using branded ones?

I wonder if I can survive on peanuts, almond, walut and pine nuts as I get food cravings every 3 hours. Soon, if this is not quenched, then it is followed by heavy headedness and anxiety with trembling.

A bad feeling (:

Sharma Ji! I think it is only psychological. Once you decide to avoid eating rice, rotis and other carbs, you will find many more alternatives, especially with vegetables, dal, etc.
