What does "Aortic Root Dilated" mean? symptoms, treatment, cause? I also have high blood pressure.

Hi Bitus,

I'd say the best person to explain this to you fully is a practising health professional, such as family doctor (GP in UK), or hospital consultant. I can tell you on a basic level what this suggests, but can't offer the level of expertise that will stop you over-imagining what's wrong or might go wrong.

The aortic root is the very beginning of the biggest blood vessel of the body, which is called the aorta. When this area of the aorta begins to bulge or stretch it's known as an aortic root aneurysm. This can occur for several reasons and it can mean a risk of the bulge rupturing, but how likely that is depends on your own particular circumstances.

And that's why I'd strongly suggest a consultation with those medical professionals who are looking after you, who know exactly what is going on with you specifically.

I'd be surprised if you aren't invited to discuss this further, but if you aren't, then I think you should make sure you do have a consultation as soon as possible, and don't be afraid to ask any questions you have concerning the condition and its treatment. I recommend writing down anything you want to know, and taking a list with you, so that you don't forget to ask everything you need to know.

I hope this explanation doesn't trouble you too much, and try not to worry. There are surgical remedies and you can be fixed! Best wishes.

Yesterday The CT scan showed the dilation was mild, and that there was no pulmonary embolism or blood clots; and all the other arteries to the organs were working as they should. Just needs to be watched. Yay!
