The sweeter the fruit the more sugar it has in it. Therefore something like rhubarb is a great fruit for diabetics, except you need to put a lot of sweetener with it, and that is also not ideal. The berry fruits are the ones with the lowest carbohydrates, so berries would be more suitable. The best thing is to test yourself before eating a fruit. Then test an hour after and again two hours after. The fruits that cause the highest blood glucose rise are best avoided. Also, beware of the quantities. A small handful of blueberries might be fine, a large punnet might not be. Always eat the whole fruit, skin as well if possible. Never have fruit juice (unless you are having a hypo). It is also best to include the fruit as part of the meal rather than a snack, but then it is better not to eat in between meals. However it is still better to have a small piece of fruit if one needs to snack rather than say biscuits, cakes etc. It is better to eat the whole raw fruit than having it cooked. For example one whole apple is better than one stewed one even if there is no added sugar. A lot is trial and error as everyone is different. The good you get from fruit is vitamins and fibre (provided it is not juiced) the bad is it contains lots of sugar. The vitamins you can get from other foods and also the fibre, so the rest is just flavoured sugar water.

Dont forget avacado, red green yellow peppers, pumpkin, sweetcorn and pea pods (not the peas).

Also I think the technically nuts are fruit

My post seems to have gone awol so 'ere 'tis again.

Tomatoes, aubergine, butternut squash, olives, okra, cucumber, chillies, beans ( pod not the seeds) are all fruits really.

Peas, beans etc are the seeds from the fruit. Basically, if its got seeds in the plant, its a fruit
