I have been on Exanatide now for about 9 months. I am type 2 and have been on insulin for about twenty years. My HBA1c levels were increasing as was the dose of Basal Insulin (up to 70 units twice a day).

First tried Metformin in addition which caused problems (upset stomach and feeling sick) until the dose was decreased and put on the Slow Release version.

This didn't help and was then put on Exanatide initially on 5 mg for a month then increased to 10 mg and am still taking it after 9 months. Initially stomach was feeling uncomfortable, not sick just full and gradually reduced food portions and the feeling went away, The result has now been, reduced my Insulin by more than half to 30 units twice a day, still on Metformin SR 1000 mg and obviously Exanatide.

Best of all I have lost 2 stone in weight - a shadow of my former self!

Went on for six months. Stomach a pin cushion, reacted to my weekly injection. Had to take an antihistamine to reduce the reaction. Still have swellings on the sites, 3 months after coming off. Works for some, but not for me. . .
