Being a diabetic since 18 years,I have some knowledge about diabetes which I am sharing with you.I am not hypertensive,so cannot talk much about that, except to say that if you keep your blood sugar levels within limits, you can also control hypertension with regular advise from a cardiologist.

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder which is a result of the pancreatic gland in our body either produces little or no insulin or the body has developed resistance to insulin. In both cases, the body cells do not receive the glucose needed for production of energy because insulin is essential for glucose to enter the cells. This results in the blood sugar levels to increase beyond acceptable levels, though your body cells are starved for glucose. This condition is very bad for our well being and over long term may result in severe complications.

Controlling blood sugar levels is a tough job but it is not impossible if you realize that every thing is in your own hands. This is so,because though you may get good advise from doctors and dieticians,it is ultimately Y OU that will have to take all the necessary steps to successfully control diabetes.I am giving certain general suggestions based on my personal experience which you may consider and adopt based on your personal choice.

Diet plays a very important role in managing diabetes. You should reduce intake of foods that are rich in carbohydrates like sweets, rice, wheat, other grains ,potato, beet and other root vegetables rich in starch. You should eat more of vegetables, sprouts, greens and salads that give you lot of fiber, vitamins and minerals. Each meal you take should be smaller but you may have 5 or 6 meals instead 3 meals a day.

Exercise is very important to control diabetes. Daily brisk walking or jogging for at least 40 to 60 minutes is ideal. Such exercise will consume lots of energy and sugar levels come down accordingly.

Mental stress aggravates diabetes. Lead a stress free life by adopting relaxation techniques like music meditation, yoga and breathing exercises.

Consult a diabetologist and get prescribed for medication if necessary and comply with the doctor's advise scrupulously.

Please remember that the most important person in managing your diabetes is Y O U.

Sure, my brother, you have spoken as if we are twins suffering diabetes. The content of your advice are measures that I have been upholding, and honestly I am LIVING, I am very healthy and you can not see a sign of my living with control of sugar.

However, I want to also stress the aspect of exercise. I think a diabetic should go beyond just jogging exercise, he should try muscle toning or resistance exercise. This would go a long way in improving his body immunity and absorption of glucose/insulin by the body cells.

Agree with you.As long as you comfortably exhaust yourself and come back to absolute normalcy with in 5 to 10 minutes it will be OK We should have concern for our age, physical condition and general health.

i really liked the technical advice from Mr. Venkataramana .The three options are the best way to go when you want to successfully manage diabetes(i.e dietary regulation, exercise and taking fruits and vegetables)

I also advise you to always go for regular medical check up to know your blood sugar levels so as to avoid surprise attacks.Wish you well.FRED Mbarara Uganda

Management of hypertension with diabetes it can be non medical by advising the patient to do the followings:

.Reducing consumption of salt foods, avoid smoking and alcoholism.

.Reducing over consumption of food products which have higher carbohydrate example rice, ugali, potatoes, cassava and other unpolished cereals which can rise the body sugar level.

.Practising physical exercise at least 30 to 45 minutes regulary example:walking, swimming and to simple works which can enhance respiration and sweating.

Also it can be medical by using of drugs example:

.Use of insulin through injection.

.Use of angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE) and angiotensin receptor blockers(ARBs),beta and alpha blockers.

THEREFORE all in all it is advised to have regular health checking regardless you are normal or victim,so medical management it should be prescribed by physcisian.
