Unfortunately theres not a huge amount you can do to 'get over' you fear. I think your best bet is to go for a check up, no treatment will be carried out and the visit might give you a chance to get used to the practice and dentist. If you are really scared, attend a practice and explain you rally want to be se but are also too nervous. They should be able to help you with acclimatisation and taking baby steps.

Take things one step at a time.

Do an internet search for dentists that deal with phobic/anxious patients. Ask friends and family for recommdations.

Go visit the Practice and speak to the Receptionist. They are used to this.

You don't hv to book your appt on that day. Go in another day and book the appt. Take a friend if you need to do - and practise deep breathing to control your anxiety. It does help.

When you go for check up make sure the dentist knows you are nervous. They will be gentle and slow. A check up is just to look. No treatment will be done, but you will find out what needs to be done in the future.

Take things one step at a time.

If you do need treatment then modern dentistry is very good. Plse don't fear having injections - anaesthetic is a wonderful aid and means that restoration of your teeth and getting back on top of things is possible - without pain. I have my teeth cleaned with hygienist and I'm number up as I can't stand the cold. I couldn't do it without injection - but because I persevere - I keep my gums healthy and I cope fine with injections. Practise distraction techniques for yourself and deep breathing.

Finally, if you book appts plse keep them. Staff will help you but plse don't cancel at last minute or not turn up as that is really annoying and wastes time. Staff understand patient fears and will help.
