Got a appointment with specsavers tomorrow there website says it will last 60 mins. Been referred by my local hospital winston liverpool. Now do i just go for the standard hearing aids , or do I buy a private hearing aid think they start at £1200 up to £3000. Are they worth it ? Will it change my life the extra 1200 pound ill be spending? Have not got a clue about hearing aids first time. Had a look on specsavers website please help some advice would be nice !!

I have had both and did end up going for private, but it depends on the level of your hearing loss and how well the nhs ones are set up for you. Why not try the nhs ones first, give them a good few months trial, it takes a long time to get used to wearing aids, many people give up. If they don’t sound right you can go back and get them adjusted. At the end of the time you can then decide whether they are good or not. If you then go private, Specsavers and Boots will allow you to wear them and give you a money back guarantee, normal 60 days. Boots also do interest free credit, their aids are fractionally more expensive but you get 5 years guarantee compared with Specsavers. The latter will give you free batteries, but you could go for the rechargeable aids anyway. Good luck and don’t give up on them too early! Ps. Don’t hand your nhs aids back as they are always a good backup even if you eventually go private.

I think that's pretty good advice, but if choosing private I would go to a independent, not a national high street company, Specsavers tend to go for Own Brand and the software keeps you tied into Specsavers, so if you have a problem you can't go anywhere else, Boots tend to go Phonak, or Phonak, and there deals normally are older technology, like But One Get One Free, or, Buy One Get One Half Price, beware of offers, you get hoovered in by adverts, but all is not as it may seem, Independents, there are plenty around Liverpool, where you have a massive choice, and not One Brand... Which magazine recommends Independent Hearing Specialists, as apposed National Companies.
