Stapedectomy - Day 7

Hi,

It is now the morning of day 7.

I am much better - Phew! The dizziness has subsided although I do get reminders now and again. I managed to go for a walk to town yesterday and I was looking up at a building and nearly fell over - keep looking straight ahead!!! Also in the shower I was using a face wash and closing my eyes to wash my face gave me a sudden bout of dizziness. But it is little things.

I am not quite ready to venture out in exercises just yet so will keep it at a daily walk. i am a yoga teacher, so theres a lot of forward bends and positions with head lower than the hips that would just make me feel sick.

In the evening of day 5 sounds starting coming through - but not anything useful. It is tinny. It is an echo. It is a reverberating sort of sound - like as if I have stuck my head into a metal tin with really badly adjusted hearing aids...

None of the sounds coming through can be made into human speech. I have read this is sort of normal in the beginning so I am not totally freaked out but I sure do hope it stops soon. It is loud. It is annoying. It makes it really hard for me to hear anything! My un-operated ear now has to work a lot harder to hear over the noise that comes in the other ear. I have turned the hearing aid up, added a larger dome (which I find physically uncomfortable but it does allow for a deeper, fuller sound).

But I guess it is good that sounds are coming through - whether useful or not. I take that as a sign the operation has worked and I am trying to be patient. I can hear traffic noises - like cars, motorcycles etc - but not directions! They come through very clearly and I can literally feel the ear vibrating!

Tomorrow is the day for seeing the ENT. He will take out the cotton, packing and whatever else is in there. Hopefully that will clear up some sounds. I think the packing is meant to dissolve after some time by itself.

All in all I am doing well. Not hearing yet. Dizziness has subsided to a reasonable level. Looking forward to get 'stuff' out of my ear. And impatient for proper sounds to come through.

Take care everyone

That's good to hear. Any more improvement over the last few days?
