The Pains and Penalties of the 'Hidden' Handicap.

I can only speak from personal experience. I have defective hearing. I am not profoundly deaf but it is still a frustrating handicap in a social context.. The defect is greater in one ear than the other. I was advised to wear a hearing aid in both ears. The reason for this is best ezplained by a trained audiologist. I would strongly advise taking out insurance against hearing aid loss . They are very expensive if you buy them privately! I didn't initally have insurance and lived to regret it!

Glastulach.........I agree with you. I would however say that originally I did purchase specific insurance for my aids, but after a year of paying out a lot of money found out that most house insurances will cover your aids as long as you declare to the insurers that you have them. NO! Insurer will cover them for water damage though.

I have progressive hearing loss. I'm what's considered late dead ends as many genetic conditions onset. I feel this handicap, to hard to hide, if not impossible. I use to resent my condition simply because it took everything I had and worked hard for away from me. I'm now learning to accept something I can't change. I'm now down to 18 percent, that's counting both ears. I have excellent insurance, no problems there. My struggle is isolatuon, frustrating and anger. Living in a hearing world takes it's toil, there are days it's just to hard. But life us won by the strong not the faint of heart.
