Hi Tkirrage.

In the UK the vaccine is being given in tier groups and currently on Tier 4 - which is >70 years of age or “Clinically Extremely Vulnerable” (CEV) - as defined here:

gov.uk/government/publicati...

Cystinuria on its own doesn’t classify as CEV. So I would say that it would be in Tier 6 (people with underlying health conditions) as defined by the government here:

gov.uk/government/publicati...

Hope that is helpful.

Hello Matt

I’m sorry to ask this question when I understand the NHS is under such pressure at the moment but I have a follow on question from this.

I think health conditions falling within Tier 6 have been more closely defined now. This states you qualify for Tier 6 if your CKD is at stages 3-5. assets.publishing.service.g...

Based on the definitions of those stages I can’t imagine I qualify. I have a solo kidney and cystinuria (no other known comorbidities) but I don’t think this would fit the definition in the guidance above?

Assuming I don’t fit the narrow criteria for tier 6, is it worth asking the GP to make a judgement that I should be treated as clinically vulnerable and given the vaccine in tier 6?

If it wouldn’t be medically advised, then I wouldn’t wish to queue jump. However if I am at higher risk of severe symptoms from C-19 then I would wish to flag this with my GP. I have read about how C-19 can trigger AKI so I would like to raise the question with my GP if you think there are medical grounds to do so.

Although I have asked about my situation I am sure your answer would help others too.

I hope you and Kay and the team at Guys are well. Best wishes

You are right they have updated the tier guidance. So it does depend on kidney function level (eGFR<60) or other co-morbidities. We can’t give individual advice on here but if not at CKD3 level then reasonable to assume that the JCVI has judged that as lower risk although impossible to quantify risk.

I know that is vague but impossible for us to say.

Hi - I was invited to have a jab 2 weeks ago; I'm 49 and a bit overweight but no other health issues so perhaps Cistunuria is being accounted for
