Do Parkison's patients lose all memory in advanced stage? Do they stop swallowing food and water before they pass away?

My father has Parkinsons Plus (Progressive Supranuclear Plasey). Doctors have told that he may not live for more than 2 years. How can they predict so accurately? His condition is deteriorating day by day as he is showing inability to walk even with support. His speech is very much unclear. He needs to excercise for longer duration of time now a days. I dont want to let him die so early. He is 58 only.

Hi P D Plus

This is very challenging for your Dad and you. You may get more information from the PSP site on hrer, have you joined it? If not you can find it through a link on my communities on the green tool bar. Go to the browse section and it is called PSP. Best wishes.

I am so so sorry. Everyone is different. Some can lose the ability to swallow. If you and he can bear it, it would be good to discuss if he wants a feeding tube eventually or not. This is such a personal decision, and if it comes to that at least you will know you are honoring his wishes. He is lucky to have you.

shasha, I'm so sorry to learn of your recent change in diagnosis. Meds are a pain in the first place, learning that they were probably useless must be frustrating even for a positive person such as you Best wishes to you and your husband

Thank you all for your replies. It is hard to see loved ones getting worser day by day. It is much harder if they forget us. I hope and wish the cure is found as early as possible with the grace of God.
