What are better MEDICARE insurance plans?
I am lucky to have Tricare as my second insurance carrier. I pay a small co-pay for three months of Azilect and Comtan and no copay for medications that have a generic equivalent.
Get a Medicare Advantage policy with no premium if you can. Then check with your State Insurance Dept for any assistance they can provide. In NY if you are over 65 and earn under their guideline you qualify for EPIC. If all else fails contact the drug manufacturer. You have to jump through some hoops and may have to file an appeal but they will help you out.
Aetna Medicare Rx is good but the website is terrible!
I swear by, and only seldom swear at, Humana Gold Plus. Their website is good, customer service over the phone is good, although sometimes wait times to talk to a person can be longer than I'd like, and their reports are clear and easy to understand. I get most of my prescriptions through their mail order service, RightSource RX, although they don't carry Pramipexole or Azilect. Humana alerted me to a joint program with Medicare and Medicaid whereby I now get help with both my Medicare Part A premium and the cost of my prescriptions that do require a co-pay, hence my Azilect has gone from $35.00 to $6.50 per month.
My income is only from SSD, so all of this extra help is a true blessing!
Look at Aetna and Mutual of Omaha Medicare/Supplement Plans.
I advise you steer clear of Humana supplement or advantage plans. They have a truly dismal reputation for not approving procedures. For confirmation, they have (or had last year) a warning about Humana on the Medicare.gov site
