Is that 200 mg. six times a day? Aren't you in a catatonic state of the shock at the price? I am so happy for you that the symptoms are under control.

As you know, Stalevo consists of levodopa, carbidopa, and entacapone. It comes in six different strengths: Stalevo 50, Stalevo 75, Stalevo 100, Stalevo 125, Stalevo 150, Stalevo 200; where in each case the number represents the mg of levodopa in each pill. Each pill also contains carbidopa in an amount equal to 1/4 the amount of levodopa (e.g., each Stalevo 50 pill contains 12.5mg of carbidopa, each Stalevo 200 pill contains 50mg carbidopa.) Every pill (regardless of strength) also contains 200mg of entacapone. Since the maximum dose of entacapone is 1600mg/day, the maximum daily dose of Stalevo 50 through Stalevo 150 is 8 pills; whereas, the maximum daily dose of Stalevo 200 is 6 pills because the maximum dose of carbidopa is 300mg/day. Sorry for the pharmaceutical lecture, this is a long way around to say that you are now at the maximum dose of Sinemet. If (when?) it stops being effective for you, you will have to adjust your PD “cocktail.”

My husband has been only on Sinemet and a Neuro patch for 5 years ,

Cannot say that we think they are making that much difference , even started to reduce them to see if it makes any difference . What is the difference in Entacone .

He is now 78 and wonder if they don't like to add other meds because of his age .

I was on it shortly and it wore off for me so suddenly and completely I had to switch back to sinenet. I don't have tremor. Stiffness esp in ab!

Espo,

I was dx in August 2011. I currently take Sinemet 50/200 at the rate of 1 and 1/2 pills three times a day. I am a school teacher and we are trying some other medicines.

Is it your understanding that the maximum Sinemet 50/200 the doctor will give me is 6 pills a day?

Thanks

Greetings Finley, on the day we Yanks celebrate our 236th year of independence.

The “50” in “Sinemet 50/200” signifies 50mg carbidopa. 50mgX6pills=300mg which, I understand, is the maximum daily dosage of carbidopa recommended because higher doses have not been clinically tested and the effects are not known. Accordingly, I suspect the “maximum Sinemet 50/200 the doctor will give [you] is 6 pills a day.” If it turns out different, I’d like to know.

Cordially, Espo. 7/4/2012.
