Has anyone found that one type of shoe is easier to work in when symptoms are bad?

Sometimes it's so hard to get Mom's shoes on her. We help push them on, but then the tennis shoes are too tight or loose. She can't tie anymore and I'm worried about some of the without a back type.

I went to a shoe store that fits the foot with computer info. It "forces" me to walk heel to toe, which is helpful.

I have 1 pair with velcro straps. Easy to put on, but the velcro seems to wear down.

I use shoes with velcro fastenings too. They are much easier on my bad days. The thing is to try on as many pairs as possible before you buy.

I found that wooden shoes with a flat sole are best especially in the morning. They hep my toes not to cramp and turn in. the old burkinstocks(SP?) and clogs help me.

I now have to slip on sandals first thing because in the hour before I can take my meds, my toes on my right (unaffected so far) foot grip the floor so hard I can't put my foot down. They are from L>L.Bean (privo?) They have a little string that fastens under strap and never come off.

If you have trouble with laces you can buy elastic ones at a medical supply store. The look lije curlycues but work quite well. I also found some at PayLess Shoe Store. They are white but I will dye them for hubby.

The shoe that suits me best is by Merrell. The type I wear has a zipper and a slim sole (rubber or such). Generally known as Lorelei (see shoes.com or zappos). On either of these sites one can order several pairs of shoes (different sizes and colors) and return those not wanted. Both retailers pay for shipping both ways. I must say, they're about the only thing I can wear. They used to make a slip on sandal that works well for me also. Good luck.

I'm answering the above comments here. I'm having trouble with this computer today. Thank you so much for the types of shoes, cites to look-up and the idea of velcro/zipper/elastic closures. I love and appreciate all of these.

I'm off now. I have a lot of researching to do!

yes! try those light weight water shoes with the good nonslip sole. I find them very good cause I can feel the ground yet be protected. Inexpensive, get them at Walmart.

Thank you! I'll go to Walmart and see if ours carries these. Light weight is a grant idea. Especially on days her feet hurt.
